What is Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and how do I optimize my site for Google, Yahoo, etc?

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via "natural" ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results for targeted keywords. Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the search results or the higher it "ranks", the more searchers will visit that site. Your site has already been optimized structurally for google. The basics of continuing to ensure your site is optimized for search engines are as follows (as outlined by google webmaster guidelines):

* Create a useful, information-rich site, and write pages that clearly and accurately describe your content.
* Think about the words users would type to find your pages, and make sure that your site actually includes those words within it.
* Try to use text instead of images to display important names, content, or links. The Google crawler doesn't recognize text contained in images.
* Make sure that your TITLE tags and ALT attributes are descriptive and accurate.
* Have other QUALITY RELEVANT sites link to yours.
* Make sure all your friends & collegues are aware your site is online.
* When creating content, always ask yourself, is this useful to my browsers?

Your website needs to be submitted to the major search engines in order for it to be seen in a timely manner. Google, MSN, & Yahoo, along with other major websites, make it available to you to submit your website for review. Submit your website url (ex: http://www.yoursite.com) to the following places:

* www.google.com/addurl
* search enginewatch.com
* www.addme.com
* www.submitexpress.com
* www.dmoz.org/add
* yahoo.com/submit
* msn.com/submit
